Second Day on the Job.

Well today I woke up not feeling very well. But I’m sure that’s because of this cat they have. 

I got to the station at 7:40ish and waiting for about an hour for someone to tell me what to do for my internship. I had a ride along with the same person I did on Thursday. He’s pretty cool, and I think I sold him on the idea of coming to this Heart to Heart fundraiser that my uncle and I are helping out with. He should me all of Newton, but that only took about 20 to 25 mins to do that because it’s a small town. After that we found a corner where we could us the radar to catch people speeding. We caught one person going 40 in a 30 zone. But the officer didn’t give her a ticket. 

Since being here I’ve found out that people are a lot nicer here then in Vegas. Because if I was back home and I was speeding I would’ve gotten a ticket so fast. After that we got a 911 call about a Domestic Disturbance. It turned out that the people were just fighting and the lady told him she was going to call the cops, even though he wasn’t doing anything that was causing her any harm. The cops settled it and we didn’t have to take anyone in.

After that the officer and I just drove around the small town looking for speeders. Although he wanted to find someone with a Warrant, so he could show me how that was done. But it was lunch time and time for me to go home, maybe tomorrow we will find someone. If I’m paired up with the same person tomorrow.

Good News! We did complete our mission for today and find out where my uncle lives. LOL! Because I’m new to this town and have no idea where I’m going, we made it our mission to find out where my uncle lived in case I ever needed to be taken home.

Once I got home I started to really feel how sick I was. So I relaxed and watched a movie with my aunt called CyberBully that new movie on abc family. I cried like a baby while my aunt said that her daughter would never be going to high school. But we both enjoyed the movie.

After the movie was done aunt Kim and I went to the store picked up something that would help with my allergies and picked up stuff to make dinner. We picked up Hannah and went home made dinner and relaxed for the rest of the day. I must say it is nice having someone to watch all the shows I watch. Because then I could talk to someone about them and have them know what I’m talking about.

Newton, Kansas

Yesterday (July 14, 2011) was the first day at the police station. I met loads of people yesterday, and I was just pushed into it. Yesterday was also the first time that I got the see a jail holding. Although here in Newton, Kansas the Police station, the Sheriffs office, and the jail are all in one building. Nothing like Vegas that’s for sure!

I was able to go on a ride along yesterday for about an hour or two. The officer I was with said that they didn’t have to much crime in the middle of the day, he said the time to come on a ride along would be at night. But he said he wanted to pull someone over to show me what it would be like. 

We pulled someone over for having a crack wind shield, and we also got to served someone with a PFA (Protection From Abuse). This guy stabbed his girlfriend with a knife in the lungs, she had to be hospitalized. He had to leave the house because this piece of paper says that he can’t go anywhere near her. The officer with me parked around the corner so the guy wouldn’t see me in the car. I was sad I missed out on watching it, but also I understand why he did it. Most people are angry when they get this paper that says they have to leave the house they live in. After that we went to do a well-fare check. Nothing to fancy the guy was alive he was having troubles with his phone.

I was done with the police station around 12pm. My family came to pick me up and we went to go eat lunch. Then we came home and everyone took a nap.

Around 5pm my uncle and I went to a heart to heart meeting. The people here in Newton are doing a charity event for this organization. It’s a volleyball event where all the funds go to this organization. I was into it and I gave some input, for like the first time ever. 

Heart to Heart is an organization that helps abused children. Their website is pretty small but I could see myself getting into something like this. To help these children that have been taken away from abused homes. This is their website http://www.hearttoheartcac.com/ I was told yesterday that they are currently being kicked out of the office that they are in, because no one is helping this organization.

I’m really excited to see what else this trip has in store for me.
